We lead strategic and operational commodity teams, while developing supplier strategy, long-range plans and the optimization of the global supply chain. Our remit includes setting delivery performance goals and implementing procurement initiatives and process improvements. We also oversee the planning and obtaining of materials, components, equipment and services for all parts of the business, including checking requisitions, developing new supply sources and ensuring best quality at best value from third parties.

Function Description: 

Dell’s is one of the Best Run Supply Chain’s in the world - renowned for its efficiency and speed of execution. Dell pioneered the Dell Direct Model enabled by a supply chain that generated significant cost and speed efficiencies. Over the last few years, Dell has enabled numerous other sales channels including retail and manufacturing with partner ODMs. The Dell SC is getting transformed with multiple modes of manufacturing and fulfillment to service demands from different customer segments.

Supply Chain Nerve Center (SCNC) is at the heart of Dell’s Global Supply Chain Operations enabling and monitoring the execution of end to end supply chain on a daily basis. SCNC is responsible for planning and governance of key areas like weekly and quarterly shipments, backlog levels, Customer experience metrics, etc and monitoring and analysis of all key supply chain metrics ranging from demand planning to customer delivery. The key objective is to help Dell’s global operations to streamline processes, cut costs and improve efficiencies. The team has a very strong pool of talent coming from premier schools and industries and possesses diverse expertise and skill sets. It’s the place to be for “work hard, play hard”.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans and releases purchase orders to secure materials and services on an "as needed" basis.
  • Identifies primary and secondary source suppliers for materials and services.
  • Submits Request for Quote (RFQ) and analyzes responses on Total Cost of Ownership basis.
  • Evaluates supplier’s performance (price, on-time delivery, quality, lead-time, TAM) and prepares feedback.
  • Develops and administers purchasing improvement programs.
  • Responsible for E&O management and mitigation.
  • May monitor factory level execution according to allocations.
  • Develops long-term relationships with senior management of strategic suppliers for materials, services and technology.
  • May be responsible for supply chain management for integrated assemblies.
  • Resolves receiving and invoice discrepancies and manages applicable metrics within the job scope.
  • Maintains accuracy of procurement database and material return to suppliers on a timely basis (where applicable). 
  • With intermediate knowledge of their commodity area as well as advanced knowledge of financial and business analysis and leadership capabilities, develops and fosters cooperative relationships to analyze situations accurately and develop effective courses of action while conducting supplier business reviews, visiting suppliers, gaining process knowledge and investigating information on new technologies.
  • Acts as a key point of contact in organizes or leading cross-functional teams to manage cost of purchased materials against current standard cost while actively participating in events focused on product pull within the supply base and identification of new sources of materials and services when needed.
  • Reviews necessary invoices with accounts payable and proactively ensures the supply base is managing material levels while evaluating vendor performance and presenting findings to management.
  • Manages internal requirements, specifications, quality, delivery, cost, risk, data integrity, use of procurement tools, supplier portals and on-line auctions while overseeing the most effective return processes and costs for defective material.
  • Communicates to suppliers’ needs and expectations while providing feedback to the suppliers regarding their performance; identifies and develops qualified suppliers as appropriate.

 Essential Requirements:

  • Typically requires 5+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3+ years with a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Solid ability to track supply and availability of components, materials and or services.
  • Solid interpersonal skills.
  • Solid analytical ability.
  • Possesses operational command of the business.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior management.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Solid communication skills.
