Position Title:        Instructor - Technical (Operations)

Location:                Muscat, Oman

Petrofac Training Services (PTS) is proud to be working in partnership in Takatuf Oman in developing and building a world-class technical training curriculum and facilities to support the Oil & Gas industry need for qualified manpower in the country. Towards fulfilling this project, PTS would like to invite applications from qualified trainers with assessor qualification who have the required plant and training experience.

The role of the Instructor/Assessor is to design and deliver technical training to meet business and learner objectives. Incumbent will facilitate training and associated competency assessment activities.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Promote a pro-active safety culture within a live plant training facility and associated facilities.
  2. Ensure the safe and effective delivery of courses.
  3. Use resources in a safe and efficient manner.
  4. Promote a positive behavioural culture at the Client Training facility.
  5. Train and assess learners to internationally accredited vocational training standards.
  6. Perform “On the Job” competency assessments to international recognised awarding body standards utilizing the live plant facility.
  7. Ensure effective teamwork with Client and Petrofac colleagues by sharing resources, information and ideas.
  8. Ensure curriculum is delivered on schedule and to client’s satisfaction and to International training standards.
  9. Manage learning to ensure equal opportunities and participation of all learners.
  10. Coach and support learners who may experience difficulties with the curriculum.
  11. Promote dialogue and involvement amongst all learners.
  12. Responsibility for administration duties related to training, e.g., trainee absence records, track trainee behaviour, development of course materials, invigilation of exams and assessments.
  13. Propose revisions to the curriculum and delivery methods for purpose of continuous improvement.
  14. Participate in Quality Audits.
  15. Report and assist investigation of accidents and near misses.
  16. Perform Risk Assessments, Toolbox Talks and Safety Audits with trainees.
  17. Ensure own continuous professional development through participation in training and development activities.
  18. Work with trainees to identify issues and carry out routine maintenance requirements within area of delivery.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience expected:

  1. Information Technology - use of PC systems and appropriate keyboard skills.
  2. In depth technical knowledge of skills in your field of operation.
  3. Ability to teach effectively using a variety of pedagogical methods.
  4. Team orientation and willingness to share information.
  5. Proactive approach to training and development of learners.
  6. Ability to effectively communicate with trainees of varying age, nationality and academic level.
  7. Positive self-image.
  8. Discipline and control behaviour in line with expectations on a client facility.
  9. Flexibility to work in an adaptable environment.
  10. Cultural awareness.

Minimum Qualifications required:

  1. Minimum 5 years’ hands-on practical work experience in the upstream production Oil & Gas sector.
  2. NVQ Level 3 as a Technician/Operator (Oil and Gas) OR a recognised apprentice level qualification OR a HNC in a relevant area OR Diploma or higher relevant qualifications.
  3. Assessor qualification is a must.
  4. A minimum of five years’ experience in delivering Mechanical Oil and Gas maintenance training courses for the energy sector and a minimum of 5 years working as a Technician or Supervisor.
  5. Information Technology - Use of PC Systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook) and appropriate keyboard skills.
  6. Minimum 5 years’ experience in delivering engineering or production operations competence based vocational training and education to international vocational training standards.
